My artistic practice is rooted in ceramics, a medium that I see as sharing many affinities with the skin, while also carrying a long history linked to use and functionality. Drawing on this ambiguity, my early installations explored how bodies conform—or fail to conform—to the roles and functions assigned to them, both individually and collectively.

In my commissioned works, sculptural shelves or wall frescoes adapt and dialogue with the architecture and the script of an environment.


Charlotte Dualé is based between Berlin, DE and Monoblet, FR.She is represented by the gallery Parliament, Paris, FR.

Corpus

This work presents a series of sculptural display-stands designed to showcase books or other documents that students wish to share. Unlike a rationalized and efficient library system, &#38;nbsp;encourages a playful approach and a physical, intuitive relationship to the sharing of knowledge. Implicitly, it invites attention to the ways in which information is communicated to us and emphasizes the importance of the medium through which knowledge is transmitted, as much as the content itself - echoing, for example, McLuhan’s theories. Intended for use by students as a book exchange or a participatory library, it fosters exchange: students can borrow or leave books in a spirit of sharing. This practice embodies the idea of the school/artwork as a physical space in which these exchanges of knowledge take place.

A Forest

For the bar of a hotel named Le Sanglier, located in a forested region of the Belgian Ardennes—an area where hunting holds strong cultural significance—I conceived and created this mural as a kind of sample of the surrounding forest floor. Within it, one can discover traces of wild boar footprints, ferns, pinecones, and many mushrooms.

I took impressions of the forest floor and then transferred them into ceramic. I mixed my own glazes, applying them in abstract, painterly layers to evoke a dreamlike, poetic quality in this vertically installed landscape on the hotel walls.

The mural stretches over 9 meters in length, divided into five panels, each 1.4 meters high. The piece has just been installed, although the hotel construction is not yet fully completed.

This series of handcrafted tile sculptures represents my thoughts on function and dysfunction in everyday life. Some tiles have sculptural elements and can display objects, like those found in a museum shop or a library. Others are poetic shapes without functionality. This work supports other pieces, acting as a stage for them or standing alone. The shelf becomes a space for imagination to flourish, where utility and creativity intertwine.

This project installed in the entry of The FRAC Champagne Ardenne and is composed of ceramic handmade tiles, with some of them featuring sculptural elements. Some of these tiles serve a functional purpose by displaying objects available in the museum's shop, such as books, art editions, objects, and postcards. Others are "purposeless" forms, devoid of a specific functional meaning. 


This artwork serves as a support for other pieces and also functions as a standalone installation, acting as a stage for other artworks or as a scene that can remain empty. The shelf is not seen here solely as functional furniture, but as a source from which imagination can emerge—a space where things grow beyond their utility, like budding ideas that come to the surface.
